Breaking barriers in 2023
Updated: Jul 9, 2022
We're much more optimistic that there will be an exciting, challenging Singing School NZ for you in Hawke’s Bay this coming summer. We’ve scheduled the school for 11 – 22 January 2023. Normally we start a bit earlier, but the originally scheduled opening day was a tight window for tutors to arrive from Australia (and frankly, creeping a bit close to your New Year's parties!).
The theme for 2023 will be "Breaking barriers" - breaking out of the covid slump (a big barrier if ever there was one!), breaking through your own barriers to sing better, experimenting with new styles, even switching around who sings what in the SATB voicings! It should be a school with a difference!
The school will be back at the excellent EIT campus in Taradale and we thank EIT as our major sponsor for this. We'll be centred around their welcoming marae facility which offers great rehearsal space and a whanau focus for us all.
Christine Douglas and Mark W. Dorrell are our hard-working Artistic Directors and Singing School champions! They hung in there with us after the 2021 school was cancelled and they're currently finalising their faculty lists. They’ll announce that list later, there’ll be some returning tutors who we’ll be glad to welcome again!
We’ve been making some changes - you'll see a refreshed website this week, and we've redesigned the timetable so you can make the most of your time and energy. Every student will also rehearse for the end of school performance – and we’ll be back at Toi Toi Hawke’s Bay Opera House in Hastings.
Applications for the School will open in July, and you can start preparing your audition and application material. Updated info will be on the website later this week.
If you've registered your interest and are on the mailing list, you'll get more information on things like application closing dates, repertoire, tutors etc. Please share this website and email information with any singing friends, your family and your music teachers so they know more about Singing School NZ.
I look forward to meeting many of you in January and hearing your voices singing across the campus!
