Concerts & Registrations Coming Soon!
Singing School Update November 2020
A brief update based on the e-newsletter we’ve recently sent to supporters, faculty and future students.
We’ve been inspired by so many of our talented performers and theatres getting creative over the past year to keep their audiences excited. Singing School NZ -Te Wānanga Toi Waiata has also had to think outside the box – and it's hard work trying to think and plan (and replan) through all the disruptions and new Covid-19 rules this year. So please support your local theatres, singers and actors to keep the arts alive and well in New Zealand!
We are well underway preparing our 30th school from 3 – 10 July next year - a move from our normal summer school to winter to work around Covid impact. Our thanks to our major sponsor, the Eastern Institute of Technology which is welcoming us to their modern campus again for this shorter, 8-day school.
First some dates!
Registrations will be open from 15 January until 28 February for full-time students, and details of fees and accommodation will be on our website next month. The 8 day school will have a smaller intake than usual - around 40 plus students. And as the dates match most university mid-year breaks but not the secondary school holidays, it’ll be an older cohort this time.
And yes, we’ll be at summer concerts!
Although there's no summer Singing School to entertain you in 2021, some of our past and future students will be singing in concerts and we’d love to see you there. Please diary these dates!
Summer in the Park on Sunday 30 January at Cornwall Park, Hastings
Centralines Summer Series on Sunday 14 February at Nelly Jull Park, Waipawa
Winter style school
Our Artistic Directors have selected a predominately Kiwi faculty with lots of knowledge and talents for our winter school, although some regular international tutors hope to be able to be in NZ. Contracts are currently out for this tight team, and we’ll announce tutors early next year.
The school programme is still in development but will include one-on-one tutoring, ensemble experience, performance opportunities and stage experience. We are going to include some online preparation classes. There'll be the usual exciting mix of classical, musical theatre and crossover student who will have good input on vocal health, performance and career opportunities. And of course ... we make sure there’s plenty of fun and friendship in amongst the hard work!
