Fee Relief for New Students
The NZ Singing School Trust has made scholarships and study fee subsidies to assist singers who would like to be at Singing School NZ in July but who are experiencing financial hardship.
"The outfall of the pandemic continues this year and means that young singers and their families may find it difficult to afford the fees for Singing School NZ. We are thrilled that some assistance has come from generous donors who want to help young singers gain further experience and reach their potential," says Helen Walker, Chairman NZ Singing School Trust.
The Cox Partners ‘Giving for Good’ Hardship Study Subsidy has been introduced this year and is aimed at new students who have not been to Singing School before. The subsidy will discount the school fees by $750 for students facing difficulty affording the fees. The funding is thanks to Malcolm and Helen Cox through their business charity programme, plus another donor gift.
The application for the study subsidy must be made by a singer's teacher who recommends them for Singing School training. Applications can be made before 30 April 2021 by emailing the application form available online to email@example.com. Their application can explain why their student would benefit from attending Singing School and outline their hardship issues.

The hardship applications will be assessed by an independent panel. Recipients still need to meet the requirements of the school – ie, be over 16 years old and have at least 3 years singing training. When students are accepted through the "Giving for Good' Hardship Subsidy application they do not need to be auditioned, as the teachers recommendation is sufficient, but students must still provide performance videos (the same requirements as the SSNZ video auditions) so they can be placed with the right tutors and get the best out of school.
Students who are accepted into Singing School can apply for Centre City Music Theatre Scholarships. The scholarships assist one classical and one musical theatre student by offering $1000 each towards fees and expenses at the school. Students can apply by contacting the school manager once they are accepted on 4 June.
