Summertime ... and the listening is easy!
Pack a picnic, bring a chair and perhaps a parasol and sit back to enjoy some fine music for free this summer.
Just like many arts organisations, Singing School New Zealand supports local events. And because we're based in Hawke's Bay, this summer we'll be giving two concerts in local parks in Hastings and Waipawa. Both concerts are free, so after all the shows everyone missed in 2020, these are simply a pleasure to offer for our supportive local people.
On Sunday afternoon, 31 January, some of our former students will sing alongside young future students at Hastings District Council's Summer in the Park concert at Cornwall Park, Hastings. It's a beautiful park and a lovely venue, and the concert starts at 3pm. Our singers will perform popular songs from stage and screen as well as opera aria. And no summer concert would be complete without the beautiful, evergreen song "Summertime".
Our fabulous performers include young high school students who are developing their musical journey, plus experienced singers with many shows and operas under their belts. These concerts will give new audiences a taste of what young singers experience at Singing School NZ - great music, vocal and performance expertise and working together (and having fun!) with other musicians. One of our skilled school accompanists, Susan Melville, will be the pianist for these events.
Two weeks later in Central Hawke's Bay, audiences can enjoy our singers at the Centralines Summer Concert at Nelly Jull Park in Waipawa on Sunday 14 February, from 3.30pm. Again we'll perform a popular mix of classical and musical theatre songs. Our thanks to Centralines and Pip Byrne for the opportunity!
"Summertime and the living is easy ..." and there aren't many better ways to spend a beautiful Sunday afternoon!
